WINDOW ROCK – Rep. Mae Peshlakai and former state Sen. Jamescita Peshlakai are seeking seats in the Arizona Legislature in Legislative District 6, running as a mother and daughter team in what they describe as a first of its kind joint bid. Mae is running for re-election to the Arizona House, while Jamescita is seeking the Arizona State Senate seat. They will be joined on the ticket by Mae’s sister, Angela Maloney, who is running for the House.

The candidates are longtime residents of the district, a vast stretch of northern Arizona that includes rural towns and multiple tribal nations. Mae Peshlakai currently represents the district in the House. Jamescita Peshlakai previously served in both the Arizona House and Senate before working as tribal liaison for the U.S. Department of the Interior during the Biden Administration. In 2025, Gov. Katie Hobbs appointed her to the Arizona State Transportation Board, where she represents a region that includes Apache, Navajo and Coconino counties and works on statewide transportation planning and infrastructure decisions affecting northern Arizona.
