ALBUQUERQUE

On April 17, Harry J. Sandoval Sr., 74, of To’hajiilee, New Mexico, engaged in an argument with his 15-year-old granddaughter, according to a statement provided to the president’s office by the Navajo Nation Police.

The argument resulted in Sandoval shooting his granddaughter and then turning the gun on himself, according to the police’s statement.

A person close to the family said that the granddaughter, Jessica Lucy Sandoval, was a student at the To’hajiilee Community School.

Funeral services for Jessica Sandoval were held on April 28 in Blanding, Utah, according to a notice of the services.

Funeral services for Harry J. Sandoval were held April 27 at the Daniels Family Funeral Services in Albuquerque, according to an obituary in the Navajo Times last week.

Mihio Manus, communications director for the president’s office, said that police officials informed him that the case is still open.

The Crownpoint District of the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation is the lead agency in this investigation with the Albuquerque FBI assisting.
