
Where is the president? Nygren misses mandated State of the Navajo Nation Address, faces subpoena, uproar

WINDOW ROCK – President Buu Nygren didn’t deliver a State of the Navajo Nation Address to the Council and the people – again.
Nygren’s from the opening day of the Council’s Spring Session on April 21 has triggered a cascade of backlash—both inside the Council Chamber and across the Diné Bikéyah.
For the fourth consecutive time, Nygren failed to appear in person to deliver the State of the Navajo Nation Address, a legally mandated report to the Legislative Branch required under Title II, subsection 1005(C)(5), which states the president “shall report quarterly to the Navajo Nation Council on the state of the Navajo Nation.” His continued failure to do so resulted in Speaker Crystalyne Curley issuing a formal subpoena compelling his attendance and delivery of the report.
