The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning until 6 p.m. today for parts of the Navajo Nation in Arizona. Strong southwest winds of 15-25 mph, with gusts reaching 40 mph, combined with extremely low humidity levels of 5-10%, have created dangerous wildfire conditions.
Residents in the Little Colorado River Valley in Coconino County; Little Colorado River Valley in Navajo County; Little Colorado River Valley in Apache County; Western Mogollon Rim; Eastern Mogollon Rim; and White Mountain areas are urged to avoid activities that could spark fires during the red flag warning, which expires at 6 p.m. this evening.
This week, weather across the Four Corners region will vary, with smoke, rain, and snow expected, particularly in higher elevations. Areas such as Sawmill and the Chuska Mountains could see increasing chances of snow beginning Monday night, with snowfall becoming more widespread by midweek. Temperatures are forecasted to range from the mid-30s during the day to the teens at night, making conditions ripe for snow accumulation.
Shiprock is expected to see a slight chance for precipitation starting midweek, which may mix with rain during warmer periods. Kayenta could also see a slight peak for rain and snow on Wednesday, potentially leading to slippery conditions. Tuba City will begin the week dry but could also see some precipitation move in by Monday and Tuesday. Ganado will have an increased chance for snow midweek, likely impacting travel, while Pueblo Pintado could receive one to two inches of snow between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Residents should prepare for colder temperatures, reduced visibility, and travel disruptions due to snow and wind.
