GALLUP — Funeral services for Ida Mae Cooke, 69, of Pinedale, N.M., were held Aug. 17 at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Interment followed at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Gallup.

Ida was born Oct. 28, 1946, in Rehoboth, N.M., into the Kiyaa’aanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tó baazhni’ázhi (Two Who Came to Water Clan). She died Aug. 10, 2016, in Albuquerque.

Ida graduated from high school in Shamawah, Oregon, attended Multonomah Community College in Portland, Oregon and retired from Raytheon in Farmington. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Ida is survived by her husband, Arthur Cooke; daughters, Evangeline Toledo and Ellevena Cooke; sons, MacArthur Cooke and Wilson Cooke; sisters, Irene Chiquito, Mary Jean Smith and Rose Mary John; brother, Lorenzo Largo; and five grandchildren.

Ida is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Largo; and brothers, Wilson Largo, and Benny Largo.

Pallbearers were Arthur Cooke, Lorenzo Largo, Derrick Toledo, Gilford Martin, Olson Largo, and Collin Tso.

Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Madge Watchman Segodi

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Madge Watchman Segodi, 96, of Sawmill, Ariz., were held Aug. 16 at the Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance, with Rev. Cynthia Hysier officiating. Interment followed in Sawmill.

Madge was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Sawmill, into the Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Biih (Deer People Clan). She died Aug. 11, 2016, in Sawmill.

Madge attended Charles Burke School and retired from Good Shepherd Mission as lay pastor. She also worked as a cook for Greasewood and Tohatchi School, postmaster general for the U.S. Postal Service, and ammunition specialist at Belmount.

Madge enjoyed quilting, visiting people, helping others, being with her grandchildren, and community outreach by doing voter registration for the Navajo Nation and Apache County.

Madge is survived by her sons, Donald R. Segodi and Wilbert Segodi, both of Sawmill; daughters, Doris J. Segodi, Delphine A. Segodi and Diane Kanuho, all of Sawmill; sisters, Maggie Begay of Sawmill, and Louise Benally of Navajo, N.M.; and 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Madge is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Hanley Segodi; daughter, Dinah Mae Yazza; sons, Ronald Segodi and Wallace Segodi; and parents, Lydia Tsosie and Etsitty Begay.

Pallbearers were Marshall June, Matthew Hanley Segodi, Micheal Yazza, Anthony Lyle Kanuho, Malcolm Yazza, and Nicholas Segodi.

Honorary pallbearers were Donald R. Segodi, Wilbert Segodi, Jimmy Kanuho, and Melvin S. Yazza.

Tse Bonito Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Long Spencer

GALLUP — Funeral services for Dorothy Long Spencer, 62, will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Rosary will take place today, Aug. 18, at Rollie Mortuary at 6 p.m. Burial will follow at the City of Gallup Cemetery.

Dorothy was born Dec. 19, 1953, in Tsayatoh, N.M., into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Dziltl’ ahnii (Mountain Cove Clan). Her nali is Haltsooí Dine’é (Meadow People); cheii is Tsi’naajiinii (Black Streak Wood People). She died Aug. 15, 2016, at the Gallup Indian Medical Center.

Dorothy was a self-employed silversmith, rancher, seamstress, cook, farmer, and homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend of the community.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Deanna Skeet; sister, Anita Martinez; brothers, J.W. Long, Paul Long Sr. and Robert Long Jr.; and five grandsons and one great-grandson.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Spencer; son, Lawrence Spencer Sr.; and parents, Louise and Robert Long Sr.

Pallbearers will be JD Skeet Sr., Grant Aaron Skeet, Paulson Long, Paul Long Jr., Nathaniel Long, and Danedict Long.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Frank Curley

GANADO, Ariz. — Funeral services for Michael Frank Curley, 31, of Cornfields, Ariz., were held Aug. 15 at the Church of Latter-day Saints in Ganado, Ariz. Interment followed in Cornfields.

Michael was born July 1, 1985, in Fort Defiance, into the Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan), born for Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan). He died Aug. 7, 2016, in Cornfields.

Michael was self-employed and enjoyed riding horses and listening to music. He adored pets and considered his puppies his kids.

Michael is survived by his parents, Berta L. and Franklyn W. and Curley; brothers, Martinez Curley, Merv Curley and Lyman Curley; and sister, Linda Lana Curley.

Michael is preceded in death by his sister, LaFena Curley; and grandparents, Wilfred Curley and Alice Howard, and Don and Irene Yazzie.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Cook Martinez

SMOKE SIGNAL, Ariz. — Funeral services for Gladys Cook Martinez, 89, of Smoke Signal, were held Aug. 10 at the Smoke Signal Nazarene Mission Church with Pastor Ron Little officiating. Interment followed at the family plot in Smoke Signal.

Gladys was born April 27, 1927, in Smoke Signal, into the Biih bitoodnii (Deer Spring Clan), born for Kiyaa’aanii (Towering House Clan). She died Aug. 5, 2016, at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Center.

Gladys attended St. Michaels Catholic School and was employed as a cook at the Keams Canyon Café for many years. She enjoyed sewing quilts for her grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by her son, George Martinez of Tucson; daughters, Laia Schauer, Darlene Jones, Caroline Martinez, Clara Martinez, Ruth Alexander, and Rebecca Martinez; brothers, Lee Cook, Archie Nodestine and Ned Cook; sister, Barbara Jimmy; and 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mary Cook.

Pallbearers were Lemuel Jimmy, Leroy Jimmy, Joseph Jimmy, Terrell Alexander, Joseph Abe, and Wade Nez.

Honorary pallbearers were Kerwin Joe, Keith Bedonie, Edward Earl Purdy III, and Marty Mann Martinez.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
