Wallace Thompson Sr.

KIRTLAND, N.M. – Funeral services for Wallace Thompson Sr., 85, of Fruitland, New Mexico, will be held Friday, May 30, at 10 a.m., at the Stake Center (10 Road 6523) in Kirtland, New Mexico. Burial will follow in Burnham, New Mexico.

Wallace was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Fruitland, into the Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tł’ááshchí’í (Red Bottom People Clan). He passed away May 23, 2025, in Shiprock.

Wallace was a welder, farmer, and rancher.

Wallace is survived by his 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A reception will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (473 Road 6100) in Kirtland, following services.

Clarena Begay

CHINLE – Funeral services for Clarena Begay, 64, of Chinle, will be held Friday, May 30, at 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chinle, with Rudy Yellowhair officiating. Burial will follow in Chinle.

Clarena was born March 1, 1961, in Ganado, Arizona, into the White Mountain People/Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge Clan). Her nálí is Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House); cheii is Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle). She passed away May 22, 2025, in Fort Defiance.

Clarena is survived by her mother, Annie Begay; brothers, Willis Begay Jr. and Marvin Begay; and sisters, Rosita Clark, Genevieve Begay, Rose Marie Begay, and Barbara Begay-Lee.

Clarena is preceded in death by her father, Willis Begay Sr.; brother, Michael Begay; and grandparents, Sam and Marie Billie.

Pallbearers will be Uland Jones, Jacoby Declay, Samuel Smith, Beau Natay, Dewayne Yellowhair, and Marcellus Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Willis Begay Sr. and Aiden Curley.

A reception will take place at the Chinle LDS Church following services.
