Austin Boyd Blackgoat

GALLUP — Funeral services for Austin Boyd Blackgoat, infant, were held Sept. 6 at the Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel in Gallup. Interment followed at the Gallup City Cemetery.

Austin was born Aug. 18, 2014, in El Paso, Texas, into the Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Haltsooi (Meadow People Clan). He died Aug. 29, 2014, in Dallas, Texas.

Austin is survived by his parents, Elverll and Elvina Blackgoat; sister, Lillie Rosie Blackgoat; maternal grandmother, Michelle Austin; and paternal grandparents, Alvin and Rosie Blackgoat.

Pallbearers were Elvertt Paul Blackgoat and Emmanuel Blackgoat.

Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

LaVerne Eskeets

CHINLE — Funeral services for LaVerne Eskeets, 54, of Chinle, were held Sept. 5 at the Potter’s House in Chinle, with Pastor Artie Aragon officiating. Interment followed at the Chinle cemetery.

LaVerne was born Sept. 17, 1959, in Fort Defiance, into the Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Haltsooi (Meadow People Clan). She died Aug. 27, 2014, in Payson, Ariz.

LaVerne always had a genuine smile and had a beautiful laugh.

LaVerne is survived by her son, Jerome Eskeets; daughter, Vena Dedman; brothers, Micheal Eskeets and Myron Eskeets; sisters, Nora Eskeets, Norma Eskeets and Louise Eskeets; and 13 grandchildren.

LaVerne is preceded in death by her son, Jeryl Dedman; parents, Leonard Eskeets and Mary Baldwin; and sisters, Delores White and Leona Charley.

Pallbearers were Jarrod Eskeets, Jerrett Eskeets, Ramone Nez, Anthony Nez Jr., Travis Pahe, and Bob Lam.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerome Eskeets, Myron Eskeets and Micheal Eskeets.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Bennie Laughing Sr.

MILK WATER, Ariz. — Funeral services for Bennie Laughing Sr., 77, of Milk Water, Ariz., were held Sept. 6 at the Milk Water Full Gospel Church with Pastor Daniel Cleveland officiating. Interment followed in Milk Water.

Bennie was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Milk Water. He died Sept. 2, 2014, in Winslow, Ariz.

Bennie is survived by his sons, William Laughing and Bennie Laughing Jr.; daughters, Mona Melendrez, Veronica Toledo, Belinda Bobelu, Dolly Laughing, Christine Laughing, Wanda Cooke, and Arlinda Graham; brothers, Johnny Laughlin, Kee Y. Laughing, Wilson Laughlin, Thomas Laughlin, Jonah Laughlin, and Clarence Laughlin; sisters, Minnie Laughlin and Lorraine Laughlin; and 47 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Bennie is preceded in death by his wife, Jennie M. Laughing; parents, Sam and Frances Laughing; brothers, Dan Laughing and Edward Laughlin; and sisters, Ella M. Brown and Gertie Laughing.

Pallbearers were Timothy Toledo, Micah Laughing, Joshua Laughing, Matthew Laughing, Bennie Laughing Jr., and Emanuel Laughing.

Honorary pallbearers were Terry Toledo, Trytton Martin, William Laughing, Jonah Laughlin, Wilson Laughlin, and Charles Schwartz.
