Obituary for June 30, 2016

James Salabye

GANADO, Ariz. – Funeral services for James Salabye, 65, of Ganado, Ariz., will be held today, June 30, at 9 a.m. at the LDS Church in Ganado, with Richard Clarke officiating. Burial will follow at the Cornfields community cemetery.

James was born July 2, 1950, in Ganado, into the Tsénjikini (Cliff Dwellers People Clan), born for Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan). He died June 23, 2016, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

James graduated from Ganado High School in 1969 and attended Eastern Arizona College. He was employed with Ganado School District, Mora’s Conoco and Apache County. He enjoyed carpentry work, ranching and all sports.

James is survived by his wife, Rosemary Salabye; sons, Jerome Salabye, Jayson Salabye and Jasper Salabye; daughter, Janice Salabye; parents, Jimmie and Lena Salabye; brothers, Lavon Salabye Sr., Larry Shirley and Leon Shirley; sisters, Kathryn Cornfields, Sarah S. Barlow, Mildred Reid, Gloria L. Salabye, Gladys Jones and Laura Begody; and six grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by Roslita Salabye, Norman Salabye and LeRoy Shirley.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Salabye, Jayson Salabye, Jasper Salabye, Lemuel Shirley, Marvin Curley and Jackson Begay.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lavon Salabye Sr., Coleman Salabye and Larry Shirley.

A reception will take place at the Cornfield/Salabye residence in Cornfields, Ariz., following services.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
