Hopefuls prepare for transition to new leadership

WINDOW ROCK

Even though there is a lot of uncertainty about the coming election for Navajo Nation president, people are beginning to talk about a transition to the new leadership.

Deswood Tome, a special assistant to Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly, said Wednesday morning he was preparing to present a report possibly as early that afternoon to set up a transition plan for whoever eventually takes over as president after Shelly steps down on Jan. 13.

Tome said he would like to see detailed reports prepared by people in the Shelly administration to help out whoever takes over as interim president and then later when a new president is finally elected.

The transition report would be divided into five parts, he said.
