The case of the Navajo Nation v. Mel Begay took another twist last week when he was released from tribal jail after paying a $4,500 bond pending his appeal before the Navajo Supreme Court.

Office of Hearings and Appeals has ruled that Steven Begay does not qualify as a candidate for Navajo Nation Council and wont be representing Coyote Canyon, Mexican Springs, Naschitti, Tohatchi and Bahastl’a’a’.

The Navajo Nation got word of a new acting controller Friday, only two days after the 23rd Navajo Nation Council voted to remove the previous Controller Jim Parris.

The Navajo Nation controller Jim Parris is out with a 17-5 vote from Navajo Nation Council during the Navajo Nation Special Session on Wednesday.
