3A North Tournament of Champions
Page girls outlast Winslow in title game
FORT DEFIANCE
Page Lady Sand Devil senior guard Ember Sloan stepped up big time in the fourth quarter of the tournament finale in the 3A North Tournament of Champions on Monday night.
Sloan knocked down eight free throws to pace the undefeated Lady Sand Devils to a 48-43 victory over the Winslow Lady Bulldogs.
Page won its third tournament of the season, improving its record to 18-0. Page and Winslow will meet again this Friday in Winslow for the third time this year.
“Ember is our team leader,” said Page head coach Justin Smith. “She is the quarterback of our offense. She drew fouls and she hit key free throws down the stretch.”
Sloan did not disappoint the large crowd at the Window Rock Fighting Scouts Event Center. She stepped into the limelight, canning 10 of Page’s 15 points during the fourth quarter. For her outstanding effort, Sloan was voted the tournament’s most valuable player.
“It’s an honor to be voted the tournament’s most valuable player,” Sloan said. “I credit my teammates for the MVP honor, most importantly the tournament’s championship. Tonight, we had to work hard to win the tournament championship. Winslow is a good team.”
