True Hoops basketball camp enters seventh year
The True Hoops Basketball Camp continues to inspire youth after six consecutive summers in operation in Rehoboth.
The free camp entered its 7th year under Rehoboth High School Athletic Director Adrian Pete with an increase in children throughout Gallup and surrounding areas this week from July 18-21 at the Rehoboth High School Gymnasium.
Kids from grade 2nd to 9th grade meet from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and kids from grade 9th to 12th meet from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and lunch is provided for all kids in attendance.
The Rehoboth Gymnasium is filled with campers of all ages and from different communities. Split into different sections, one section will be working on lay-ups, while another would be learning footwork on the court.
Riley Whitehair of Iyanbito has been at the camp for two days and is excited to continue throughout the week learning the fundamentals of basketball.
“I am learning a lot of things like dribbling, passing and playing defense,” said Whitehair who will enter the fourth grade at Wingate Elementary this year.
With a packed house, the campers, coaches and volunteers are busy and hard at work teaching the skills of basketball all while spreading the word of Jesus Christ.
“Kids want to have fun and I think we provide that for them in the summer time,” said Pete.
