V hangs on for thrilling win over Page

Monument Valley’s balanced offense was a key factor in the Mustangs’ wild 34-32 victory over the Page Sand Devils last Friday night in Kayenta.
The Mustangs passed for 215 yards and had 205 yards rushing for 420 yards of total offense for the night.
“We are surprising everyone with our offense,” said Monument Valley had coach Bryan Begay. “We have a balanc
ed offense. In years before, we relied on our passing. This year we can pass and we can run the ball. We have good athletes on both sides of the ball.”
Monument Valley quarterback Joshua Young threw for 200 yards, completing 13-of-26 passes and one touchdown. Cauy Nelson was on the receiving end of two passes from Young for 53 yards. Nelson also completed 1-of-2 passes for 15 yards.
In addition, Irwin Holiday caught two passes for 40 yards a nd Aaron Hoshnic hauled in one pass for six yards and a touchdown.
Jerron Bitloy was Monument Valley’s leading rusher, chalking up 56 yards on 11 carries. Nelson rushed for 45 yards on five carries and on
e touchdown.
Page quarterback Randall Holgate had a banner night. Holgate threw for 436 yards, completing 12-of-31 passes with four touchdowns and one interception.
“Randall had a great night,” said Page head coach Jeff Wheatley. “He had the best game of his high school football career.”
