KC girls earn district title
KIRTLAND
Daria Frank always wanted to know what it was like to play on the big stage.
The Kirtland Central High School senior comes from a line of golf that runs in her family and since she reached the high school level, she’s dreamed of playing in the state tournament.
After winning the individual 4A district 1-6 team title on Monday, Frank will finally get her chance.
“This is my first time and I’m so happy I did what my goals were and my whole team was proud of me,” she said.
Frank shot a qualifying score of 83 and placed first individually, which automatically qualified her for the state tournament. She also helped her team qualify by contributing to their team score of 369. The tournament took place at Riverview Golf Course in Kirtland.
The Lady Broncos’ top scorer Kyla Jones came in second and shot an 86 for the team score. Phyllis Kitseallyboy came in next with a 98 followed by Tiger Tsosie (102) and Cyanne Cly (118).
Kirtland Central head coach Stephan Williams said the team finish and effort was a pleasant surprise especially since his team hadn’t had the best regular season.
“The whole year it seemed like we were kind of way off and then this spring the girls started to come together,” he said. “Then we got closer and closer…we really put some good effort in and shot some good scores; I’m pleased with their effort.”
