Prep’s mental game leads to victory over Shiprock
The Navajo Prep Lady Eagles are already setting themselves apart from the volleyball pack thanks to their mental strength.
In a match on Sept. 2 against District 1-4A Shiprock, Navajo Prep, from District 1-3A, proved to have at least one piece to the puzzle of a successful season.
With a strong mental game, they came back from splitting 1-1 with Shiprock to win two games to seal the 25-18, 19-25, 25-20, 25-12 victory.
Navajo Prep head coach Rainy Crisp said it was refreshing to see that her team had the ability to bounce back.
“That was kind of our weakest part of our game – we don’t bounce back quick enough, and so that has been our main focus coming into the season,” Crisp said. “They’re getting mentally stronger, which is definitely going to carry us a long way during the season.”
Crisp said her team was confident and it was a nice surprise especially with their play over the weekend.
“We played hesitant, scared to mess up and not wanting to lose but today we came out and it was complete opposite,” Crisp said. “We were determined to win this game.”
