Wings of America will feature more than just running

FORT DEFIANCE

Former world-class distance runners Patti Dillon and Henry Rono are marquee speakers at the 19th Annual Wings of America American Indian Running Coaches’ Clinic June 1-3 in Santa Fe.

The coaches’ clinic is hosted by the Institute of American Indian Arts and presented by the Navajo Nation Just Move It, Nike N7 and Hotel Santa Fe, The Hacienda & Spa.

Dorm-style lodging is available to clinic participants for an additional fee. If interested, please contact Wings’ office manager, Tiffany, at (505) 982-6761 to get further details. Deadline to reserve on-campus lodging is May 25 at 5 p.m.

Wings of America Program Director Dustin Martin said at the beginning of each summer, Wings hosts the American Indian Running Coaches’ Clinic for student athletes, coaches and community members working throughout Native America.

He said cultural stewards, historians, elite athletes, health professionals and training experts are invited from around the country to speak at this conference-style forum.

“Through their personal stories, research, coaching insights and demonstrations, clinic attendees gain new perspective on the history of Native running and learn innovative ways to take their passion to the next level,” Martin said. “As part of the orientation process for our summer Running & Fitness Camp facilitators, this program underscores mentoring and the importance of sharing knowledge at a professional level.”
