Press Operator PART TIME, PERMANENT POSITION

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or High school Equivalency Certificate; plus, two years hands on work experience. The ideal candidate must have knowledge and demonstrated experience running a multi-unit web press to run weekly newspaper, special tabloids, and related publications. Considerable physical activity is required and includes: climbing ladders or stairs, bending and heavy lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects 50 pounds or more for more than 20 feet. Subject to night, holiday, and flexible weekly scheduling to meet print production needs. Must also possess a valid state’s driver’s license and have a clean driving record. Salary based on overall education and experience.

Reporter – Full time, permanent position

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, English, or a related field. Plus, three years of progressive work experience in reporting for a news or magazine publication or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a current valid state driver’s license. Must have good communication skills and be able to travel and work flexible hours. Experience in covering hard news, hyperlocal news, sports, features, and taking photographs is preferred. Speaking and writing Diné Bizaad are a plus. Salary: Negotiable.

Freelance positions – Editorial

The Navajo Times seeks experienced freelance news and sports reporters and photographers to join its team. Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering prompt news coverage while producing comprehensive and engaging articles that impact the Diné readership.
 
Freelancers can help with publication by contributing stories and photos, such as breaking news, covering community events, writing in-depth pieces, profiling personalities, and producing cover stories.
 
A solid commitment to journalistic ethics – accuracy and impartiality – is highly valued in the ideal candidate. The ideal candidate should have exceptional writing, reporting, and photography skills. Candidates should understand Diné government, culture, and traditions well. Speaking and writing Diné Bizaad are a plus.

Internship Program

The Navajo Times offers paid internships. Opportunities are in Advertising, Editorial, and Product and Design teams.

You will have the opportunity to work at the Navajo Times office in Window Rock, Arizona, during your internship. You will learn about Diné journalism, help our readers understand the world, and work with our teams and Navajo Times leadership.
