WINDOW ROCK
It’s a pretty awesome gig that Furball, aka “Legislative Kitty,” has as the only animal employee in Speaker LoRenzo Bates’ office. The cat does not do the legislating and other pesky work, such as writing, reading, and talking to her human co-workers. Her job description is merely to catch mice.
And for nearly four years she has kept the speaker’s office rodent free and also managed to add to her resume stress reliever and professional cuddle buddy.
“She’s done her job well,” said Bates. “She likes cuddles sessions. She’ll come in and jump on your lap and it’s cuddle time for her.” Once a slim kitty, the now plump cat has gone above and beyond her job requirements and exceeds expectations.
Since she’s good at her job there’s not much for her to do but hang out and sleep wherever and whenever she pleases. “On desks, those that have lamps, especially in the winter time she’ll sleep under those because it’s warm,” said Bates.
