In honor of diabetes month, Tsehootsooi Medical Center’s prevention team is trotting across the Navajo Nation to raise awareness about diabetes with their “Turkey Trot: Take Care of Your Life” event.
The event features seven activities at chapter houses across the nation. This past Thursday, Nov. 6, they were at Sawmill Chapter, and today, Nov. 13, they will be at Fort Defiance.
Recreation Specialist Jimmy Pete said the goal for Turkey Trot is to provide communities with activities that help them fight diabetes. This includes a 3K walk/run, cooking demonstrations, chair/band exercises, cultural education, health/self-care, stress management and immunizations.
Pete said they are visiting seven chapters throughout November with the final chapter being Nahata Dziil on the 25th.
