Page-based band to open for DevilDriver

Page-based band to open for DevilDriver

GALLUP

Ahead of their scheduled performance opening for DevilDriver in Window Rock Friday, one Diné band aims for the future.

Graves of the Monuments from Page, Ariz. has been around since December of 2013, forming out of the ashes of their old bands and coming together to create their own sound of hardcore/melodic metal.

“I know our music involves yelling and screaming, but we aren’t angry people,” said lead vocalist Carlos Weiss.

Graves of the Monuments comprises of Weiss; rhythm guitarist Justin Nez; guitarist Christian Lane; bassist Troy Tsosie; and drummer Quinton Yellowhair.

Graves of the Monuments have all known each other since high school, all graduating from Page High School and sharing a common love of music. Each member was involved in their own projects in high school, but after hanging out and wanting to create music that was fit for themselves, they began rehearsing.

Weiss, Yellowhair and Lane were in their own heavy metal cover band when they began to jam with Tsosie and Nez near the end of their high school years.
