1977 Coconino champions honored in Flagstaff Sports Foundation Hall of Fame

Led by head coach Jack Boehle, the 1977 Coconino High School boys cross-country team won the state championship that year.

FLAGSTAFF – The 1977 Coconino High School boys cross-country team that delivered the program’s first Class AA state championship was honored last summer as part of the Flagstaff Sports Foundation Hall of Fame class.
The team was inducted Aug. 16, 2025, during the foundation’s annual banquet at the High Country Conference Center on the Northern Arizona University campus. Frank Nez, who won the individual state title that year, spoke on behalf of the team while wearing a letterman jacket covered in running medals.
