Ceremonial honor brings Loren Anthony home between days on set

CHURCH ROCK, N.M.
Loren Anthony walked the Ceremonial night parade in Gallup on Thursday, greeted the crowd as grand marshal, then got in a vehicle with his family and drove through the night to Burbank, California, to be on a Warner Bros. Studios set by 7 a.m. Friday.
By Saturday morning, he was back on the street in downtown Gallup, walking a second parade for the 104th Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial.
The Diné actor and musician, who founded the firewood nonprofit Chizh for Cheii, said the overnight round trip came as he balanced a recurring role on a series shooting in California with Chizh for Cheii’s preparations for winter.
“Being grand marshal, I tried to plan out my film schedule to be off for this week,” Anthony said.
But film work, he said, is “unpredictable,” and producers needed him back on set Friday.
Anthony said he grew up with the Ceremonial, dancing in the parade as a boy with his family and later competing in powwows as a young man.
