Chef earns Big of the Year award for mentoring
WINDOW ROCK
From cooking to mentoring, Paige Martinez is making a mark in her young life.
Most recently she was named High School Big of Year with the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Central Arizona.
Martinez is a chef in training but also a Big Sister at heart. She has been a part of the organization for a little over a year and was ecstatic be to be named High School Big of the Year on Jan 22.
Martinez said she wasn’t really expecting to be given the honor but she’s happy being a “Big Sister” because it allows her to change somebody’s life.
“I like to do a lot for things in my community and that was just one of those things,” she added.
Bobbi Rose Nez, tribal partnership coordinator/program specialist, said the High School Big of the Year is one of several volunteer awards given out to Big Brothers and Big Sisters in the program each year.
Nez said the awards are given to people who have been matched at least one year.
She excels as a BBBS representative, has demonstrated positive impact against their little’s life and has been able to publically speak about their BBBS experience, according to Nez.
