Despite multiple surgeries, long stretches of solitude and relentless mosquitoes, Diné backpacker Jeremy Barney has completed the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail.
Barney, originally from New Mexico and raised on the East Coast, started on May 17, 2025, and finished on Sept. 16, 2025. The unbroken path runs from Campo, California, to the Canada–United States border in the Pasayten Wilderness of Washington. The PCT is a scenic hiking and equestrian trail that crosses stark deserts, deep forests and high alpine country.
He walked through three states and some of the most remote, physically demanding terrain in the country.
