Tuba City High sophomore is new Miss Western Navajo Teen
TUBA CITY
For a 16 year old, Nicole Dodson’s ethereal soprano voice is her true signature. And on Wednesday night she shared with the audience her powerful voice at her best and for it she was crowned Miss Western Navajo Teen at Greyhills High.
Dodson credits her father, Jerry “JR,” for teaching her how to sing.
“My father (was part) of a song and dance singing group,” said Dodson, who’s known for her caliber of talent throughout Western Navajo.
In fact, former Chairman Peter MacDonald Sr. has said that Dodson’s voice is “terrific … even better than Beyoncé at the Super Bowl.”
Dodson’s contemporary talent was an epic hit, during which she gave a brief description of her barrel racing saddle and sang Apache Spirit band’s “Sweet Navajo Love” with the backing of a live band.
“How many of you guys felt somehow?” asked the audience entertainer Pax Harvey who emceed the Miss Western Navajo Teen pageant. “How many of you guys looked at her (significant other) and said, ‘Should we get married? We were just friends, let’s get married now.”
