Students explore the stars in three languages at Puente de Hózhó

FLAGSTAFF – An inflatable planetarium touched down Jan. 30, 2026, at Puente de Hózhó Elementary School, offering students a view of the stars and a chance to hear stories of the universe told in Diné, Spanish and English.

The visit from the Meteor Crater Education Alliance marked a full day of science learning at the Flagstaff Unified School District’s bilingual and tri-cultural magnet school, where language and culture are built into the classroom every day.

Inside the inflatable planetarium dome, students explored the planets, constellations and night sky from multiple cultural perspectives. Families joined in the afternoon to share the experience alongside students.

The program is part of the MCEA’s traveling science initiative, which brings immersive astronomy shows to schools in northern Arizona, including the Navajo Nation and Coconino, Yavapai and Navajo counties. More than 1,500 students in the region have participated since the project began in November 2022.
