Guest Column: A sincere, humble thank-you
To the people of the Navajo Nation: It is with sincere appreciation and humbleness that I say thank you — the voters and citizens of the Navajo Nation.
I sincerely enjoyed the time spent with you during my years as Arizona House Speaker and while campaigning for United States Congress.
I am fortunate to have attended the various fairs held on the Navajo Nation in places such as Window Rock, Shiprock and Tuba City as well as participating in several outstanding parades. I enjoyed chapter house gatherings, private home visits, tours of the Bennett Freeze areas and several uranium mine cleanup areas.
I attended special events at your new and beautiful facility, Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort, and also enjoyed my time at Glen Canyon Dam, and Navajo Generating Station. I appreciate the cooperation among local and state officials as well as community members during the landslide that shut down U.S. Highway 89 access to Page.
I especially enjoyed speaking during an event in Window Rock celebrating Navajo Code Talkers’ Day, a day designated to honor Navajo Code Talkers in the State of Arizona. Senate Bill 1099, sponsored by Arizona State Sen. Carlyle Begay, unanimously passed both houses of the Legislature earlier this year and I had the honor and privilege of celebrating that day with you, the Navajo people.
In all the time I spent with my fellow citizens residing on the Navajo Nation, I always felt respected and welcomed. Thank you all for your kindness and courtesy.
