$62 million contract moves Navajo-Gallup water project forward

PAGE

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a nearly $62 million contract to Ames Federal Contracting Group LLC to build the San Juan Lateral Pumping Plant No. 1, marking another major step toward delivering long-awaited clean water to Diné communities in northwest New Mexico and eastern Arizona.

Located within the Niinahnízaad Chapter, the new pumping plant will move water stored in the Frank Chee Willetto Reservoir along the San Juan River to the San Juan Lateral Water Treatment Plant. Once treated, the water will flow to homes, schools and businesses across Navajo communities, as well as the city of Gallup and Window Rock, fulfilling part of the federal government’s commitment under the Navajo San Juan Indian Water Rights Settlement.
