Armed student arrested at Chinle High School homecoming dance

CHINLE

A routine security check at the Chinle High School Homecoming Dance on Saturday night escalated into a tense situation when a Navajo Nation Police Department officer received reports of a potential armed student on the premises.

In response to the report, additional officers arrived quickly to search the area. Their efforts led to the arrest of an 18-year-old student found in possession of a pellet handgun, according to the Navajo Nation Police.

Police released all the students to their parents. No injuries are reported, police said.

Authorities express gratitude for the community’s patience as they continue to investigate this incident.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Navajo Police Department Chinle District at (928) 674-2111/2112.
