Police Blotter: Man shoots self to avoid homelessness
FARMINGTON — On Nov. 17, at approximately 10 a.m., a deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office was at a residence on Road 5803 in Farmington executing a court ordered eviction.
The deputy made contact with the 59-year-old tenant, who agreed to voluntarily gather his belongings and vacate the residence, according to a news release from the SJC Sheriff’s Office.
As the deputy waited outside, the man exited the house looking very pale. He asked the deputy to take him to the hospital because he had just shot himself. At this time the deputy noticed a small bullet wound to the man’s chest.
The man was transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. He told investigators he attempted to take his life because he could not face the prospect of being homeless.
The investigation is ongoing.
Seligman man arrested for shooting wife
FLAGSTAFF — On Nov. 15, at approximately 10 a.m., Richard Hollman called and reported he had shot his wife at a home located west of Seligman, Ariz.
Arizona Department of Public Safety and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office officers had units closer to the area and responded to the scene first.
They detained the suspect and confirmed the victim was deceased while Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies were in route.
The suspect in the case is identified as 71-year-old Richard Hollman. The victim was later identified as 62-year-old Carol Sheansy, according to a news release from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office investigated the scene and interviewed Hollman who implicated himself in the shooting death of Sheansy.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and located a weapon believed to be used in the homicide along with over 20 pounds of high-grade marijuana.
Hollman is currently being held in the Coconino County Detention Facility on a first-degree murder charge. His bond has been set at $1 million.
This incident is still under investigation and further details are not available for release at this time.
Scammers seeking money, personal info
AZTEC, N.M. — The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office has learned that unknown individuals are calling random citizens, and posing as sheriff’s deputies.
They advise the citizen that they either currently have a warrant for their arrest, or a warrant is being sought for various reasons (i.e., you owe the IRS money).
The callers then coax the citizen to arrange payment via a 3rd party money system (Moneypack, Western Union, etc.), or to give up personal identifying information.
The callers are even spoofing the sheriff’s office phone number and voice mail system so the agency’s legitimate number shows up on the caller ID, and if someone calls back to the number provided by the caller (not 334-6107), they will get a legitimate sounding voicemail system.
The sheriff’s office wants to take this opportunity to inform the public that when an arrest warrant is issued by the courts an individual must answer to the issuing judge. Law enforcement agencies do not call and mediate payment.
If you receive any such call, do not give the caller any information. Instead, contact the agency, which is being represented and report the incident.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is located at 211 South Oliver, Aztec, NM. Our contact number is 505-334-6107.
