Coconino County approves Glittering Mountain development
TUBA CITY
The Coconino County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 17 gave final approval on a 70-acre mixed-use development adjacent to Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort.
The ambitious, $14 million development known as The Outlook at Glittering Mountain – proposed by the Navajo Nation Shopping Centers Inc. – is a project that includes big box retailers, condominiums and townhouses, a family entertainment center (complete with a video arcade, a bowling center, a laser tag arena, mini golf, and a theatre), a gas station, an upscale hotel, an outlet mall, restaurants, an RV park, among others.
NNSC CEO Nathaniel Begay said the first phase of the development is a 50,000 sq. feet multifaceted entertainment center that will also feature an eatery.
“Then we want to do some professional administration offices, more retail, and shopping centers,” Begay said.
Subsequent to phase one, Begay said an artisan village as well as Costco, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Target stores, among others are being planned for phase two.
“We have a museum planned for the third phase and housing for the fourth phase,” Begay said.
On account of the casino and to mitigate the revenue loss the Navajo Nation experiences from border-town shopping, the land was purchased for the development of a municipal.
