CHINLE – Cordarelton J. Benn, a Diné jockey, has made history as the first, full-blooded Diné to achieve significant success in the professional horse racing industry. Recently recognized by the Navajo Nation Council during its Winter Session in January, Benn’s groundbreaking career and dedication to his craft have earned him a place in the spotlight – not just as a jockey, but as an inspiration to his community.

Jockey Cordarelton Benn, Diné, crosses the finish line in a thrilling victory, showcasing the skill and determination that have made him a trailblazer in the horse racing world. With 12 years of professional experience, Benn has become a standout figure in the sport, competing in prestigious races across the country and earning respect in an industry where Native American representation is rare. His recognition by the Navajo Nation Council marks a pivotal moment, celebrating his accomplishments and the pride he brings to his people.

Benn is Nihoobáanii and born for Ta’neeszahnii. His maternal grandfather Kiyaa’áanii and his paternal grandfather is Naaneesht’ézhí Tábąąhá. He is originally from Montezuma Creek, Utah.
