Election board reopens filing for 77 vacant chapter, school seats
WINDOW ROCK
The Navajo Board of Election Supervisors has voted to extend the filing period for 77 unfilled chapter and school board positions that remained vacant following the June 10 special election. The new candidate window opened on June 13 and will close on June 26.
The extension, authorized under the Navajo Election Code, was approved unanimously through resolution BOESJN-33-25 during a board meeting in Lukachukai, Arizona. The code allows the board to extend the filing period when no candidates file by the initial deadline – in this case, March 11.
Norman L. Begay, the chair of the Board of Election Supervisors, certified that all seven members voted in favor, with no opposition or abstentions. The resolution stated, “It is in the best interests of the Navajo Nation that the filing period for unfilled positions be extended for positions not applied for.”
