Election officials move to fill vacant Council seat as chapter, school board vacancies grow

WINDOW ROCK – The Council delegate seat representing the chapters of Church Rock, Iyanbito, Mariano Lake, Pinedale, Smith Lake and Thoreau could soon be filled as Navajo Nation election officials move through certification procedures.
At the same time, officials are managing ongoing chapter and school board vacancies and tracking proposed legislation that could change the primary election calendar.
During a recent briefing, officials with the Navajo Nation Election Administration described the status of candidate filings to replace former Delegate Stephen R. Arviso, outlined the appointment process and provided updates on unresolved leadership positions across the Eastern Navajo Agency.
