Hardrock Chapter to discuss budget allocations, appointment of pro tem chapter secretary-treasurer
WINDOW ROCK
The Hardrock Chapter House will host a planning meeting today at 5 p.m. to discuss community matters and prepare for the new year. The in-person meeting will be led by Chapter President Jay Begay Jr., along with Vice President Byron Wesley and Secretary-Treasurer Lavon N. Begay, who will address key issues affecting the community.
The agenda will include several new business proposals, which are expected to be forwarded to the regular chapter meeting for further consideration. These proposals will address the appointment of a pro tempore secretary-treasurer to fill a vacancy under a Navajo Nation Council resolution, the removal of certain officials as authorized check signers, and the acceptance of a budget allocation of $8,347.57 for public assistance programs.
Highlights of the meeting will include announcements regarding upcoming events. These will include the Hardrock Veterans meeting on Jan. 5, the chapter’s official inauguration at Rough Rock Community School on Jan. 8, and a public forum on Jan. 16 to discuss land withdrawals for business development and family burial plots. Additionally, a community food bank event is scheduled for Jan. 27 at St. Mary’s.
Representatives from other organizations, including Navajo County District 2 Supervisor Alberto Peshlakai and Maria Moffett, the principal of Rocky Ridge Boarding School, are listed on the chapter agenda but it does not state if the two officials will be giving presentations. Council Delegate Germaine Simonson and representatives from the Hardrock Veterans Organization, senior center, and other chapter committees are on the agenda as well to present reports on ongoing initiatives and community priorities.
The chapter plans to schedule another regular meeting later in January to continue discussions and finalize decisions.
