McCabe defends role, outlines sweeping financial overhaul for Navajo Nation

Controller Sean McCabe presented a detailed and forward-looking update to the 25th Navajo Nation Council on Monday, Oct. 20, emphasizing advancements in financial systems and voicing concerns over federal funds, audits and his contested position.
Despite President Buu Nygren’s recent attempts to remove him from office, McCabe affirmed his commitment to transparency and efficiency.
“Nothing’s really changing right now. So, I’m still the controller,” McCabe said. He began by acknowledging the rushed preparation of his fourth-quarter report, noting his absence the previous week and thanking his team for their efforts.
