McCabe says controller’s office focused on fixing systems, not politics
WINDOW ROCK
Controller Sean McCabe told the 25th Navajo Nation Council on Monday, Oct. 20, that despite political uncertainty surrounding his position, the Office of the Controller continues to focus on transparency, compliance and modernizing the Nation’s financial systems.
Speaking during the fall session, McCabe said he remains in his role under court order and emphasized his office’s work to strengthen internal controls and complete the transition to a new Enterprise Resource Planning system by mid-December.
“We really feel like this will be the next step in the Navajo Nation’s efforts to strengthen our internal controls and really promote accountability and transparency,” McCabe said. “Delegates will have access to online dashboards to see reporting and actuals as they happen on a daily basis.”
McCabe said the ERP system, developed in partnership with Arctic IT, will streamline procurement, payroll, revenue management, and budgeting across the government.
“The go-live date is set in stone now for the middle part of December,” he said, adding that modules for the Office of the Controller and the Office of Management and Budget will activate at the same time.
He said the Office of Vital Records module is already operational, allowing citizens to update records and print tribal ID cards at agency offices. McCabe said he requested legal guidance from the Department of Justice to add veteran endorsements to ID cards to help speed up benefit payments.
The final Human Resources module is expected to go live on Jan. 1, 2026.
