
Navajo pumped storage developer returns with new application on federal trust land

A developer previously denied federal approval for hydroelectric projects on Navajo Nation land has returned with a revised application.
The application proposes a pumped storage project located on federal land held in trust for the Navajo Nation. The filing marks the latest development in an ongoing effort to build large-scale water-powered energy infrastructure in northern Arizona.
On March 14, Western Navajo Pumped Storage 1 LLC submitted an application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking a preliminary permit to evaluate the feasibility of a Western Navajo Pumped Storage Project 1 project. The site is located near Page, Arizona. According to the filing, the federal government holds the Navajo Nation’s federal land in trust.
