GALLUP – Funeral services for Laverne Hoskie, 51, will be held today, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow in Rehoboth, New Mexico.

Laverne was born Nov. 25, 1965, in Salt Lake City, Utah, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). She died Oct. 5, 2017, in Red Rock, New Mexico.

Laverne graduated from Gallup High School in 1984 and was employed at the McKinley County Adult Detention Center, Gallup Lumber and Gallup Indian Medical Center. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite football team was the Oakland Raiders.

Laverne made a lot of friends and made them feel welcomed. She will be remembered as the funny, loving and caring person she was.

Laverne is survived by her husband, Delbert Begay; children, LaTonya Baker, Jeannine Hoskie and Kirk Begay; parents, Louise Yazzie and Wilson Hoskie; and sisters, Genevieve Whitman, Stephanie Plummer, Matilda Livingston and Stephaline Tsosie.

Laverne is preceded in death by her son, Jeremiah Baker; sister, Melody Hoskie; and brother, Leroy Livingston.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

David Earl Patterson Sr.

(Nov. 11, 1922 – Oct. 8, 2017)

SHIPROCK – Funeral services for David Earl Patterson Sr., 94, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, will be held today, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Christ The King Catholic Church in Shiprock.

David was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Red Valley, Arizona. He passed from this life Oct. 8, 2017, in Rio Rancho.

David was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II and Navajo Code Talker from 1943 to 1945. He was honorably discharged on April 7, 1945.

David is survived by his children, David Patterson Jr., Marcus Patterson, Sandy Johnson, Michael Patterson, Pat Patterson and Calvert Lee (adopted).
David is preceded in death by his wife, Marion Patterson; and daughter, Karen Joe.

David is in the care of Desert View Funeral Home in Shiprock.

Gregory Harris Woody

CUBA, N.M. – Funeral services for Gregory Harris Woody, 41, of Ojo Encino, New Mexico, will be held today, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Cuba Baptist Church in Cuba, New Mexico, with Richard Montoya Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Cuba.

Gregory was born Jan. 20, 1976, in Shiprock, into the Hashtl’ishnii (Mud Clan), born for Kinlichii’nii (Red House People Clan). He died Oct. 3, 2017, in Ojo Encino.

Gregory graduated from high school and was employed in contracting/construction. He was also a handyman helping family and friends, and building various projects. He enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, riding horses, spending time with family and friends, and was a Redskins fan.

Gregory is survived by his wife, Denise A. Woody; son, Elijah Miguel Woody; father, Harry R. Woody; brothers, Harold Woody, Hardy Woody and Harvey Woody; sisters, Marian Woody, Marcia Woody and Marlo A. Woody; and maternal grandfather, Joe N. Montoya.

Gregory is preceded in death by his mother, Mary M. Woody; maternal grandmother, Ethel P. Montoya; uncle, Kee Y. Montoya; and paternal grandparents, Frank and Laura Woody.

Pallbearers will be Hardy Woody, Francis Woody, Jerrick Woody, Tevin Woody, Myles Sylvester, Dishon Jefferson, Juan Woody and Alexander Tessay.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harry R. Woody, Harold Woody, Hardy Woody, Harvey J. Woody and Elijah M. Woody.

A reception will take place at the Tinian Baptist Church following services.

Daniels Family Funeral Services-Alameda Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
