Puerco Valley chapters still without funds

WINDOW ROCK

The Puerco Valley Certified Chapters have reopened their doors to the community but now they are facing another challenge.

“We are operating on zero funds,” said Laura Yazzie, chapter manager at Tsé Sí Aní.

Money for fiscal year 2016 hasn’t been allocated to the Tsé Sí Aní and Houck chapters yet, according to chapter managers. Nahata Dziil was in that group until they recently got their money.

This new problem comes a week after the chapters closed because they weren’t insured.

“It could be the middle part of October or it could be the end of October,” Yazzie said about getting the funds. But she said that’s just an estimate.

According to Chavez John, acting director of the Division of Community Development, the budget process includes chapters closing out their fiscal 2015 budgets before they start the 2016 budget process.
