School bus involved in crash on Blue Canyon Road
FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz.
A school bus carrying 20 students was struck from behind by a vehicle early Thursday morning on Blue Canyon Road while picking up a student. According to the Navajo Nation Police Department, the crash was reported at 6:46 a.m., with one injury initially confirmed.
Emergency responders, including Navajo Emergency Medical Services, Navajo Fire Window Rock, and local school staff, were quickly on the scene to assist. Students were evaluated by EMS before being released to their parents.
By 9:03 a.m., medical evaluations were completed for all students. Eleven students were released to their parents at the scene, while nine others were transported by a secondary school bus to Fort Defiance Indian Hospital for further checks.
The driver and child in the vehicle that hit the bus were also taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Parents are advised to meet with Window Rock Unified School District staff at Fort Defiance Hospital to pick up their children.
Authorities urge drivers to be cautious while traveling on Blue Canyon Road due to the presence of first responders and school staff.
