Who’s watching the money? Council exposes deep financial disarray

GRANTS, N.M. – What began as a routine 20-minute financial report on April 21 quickly unraveled into one of the most damning indictments of fiscal dysfunction in recent Navajo Nation history.

Controller Sean M. McCabe, entrusted with safeguarding the Nation’s fiscal assets that sit in the billions, stood before the 25th Navajo Nation Council and delivered an oral report that was less a statement of progress and more a confession of chaos.
