GREASEWOOD SPRINGS, Ariz. – Funeral services for Billy James Abe, 81, of Greasewood Springs, Ariz., were held July 6 at the Greasewood Catholic Church with Brother Paul O’Brien officiating. Interment followed at the Greasewood community cemetery.

Billy was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Greasewood, into the Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan), born for Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan). He died July 1, 2016, in Fort Defiance.

Billy graduated from Barstow High School in Barstow, Calif., and Intermountain five-year program in auto body-fender repair. He also served in the Army and was stationed in Germany in 1956.

Billy was employed with Yermo Marine Base in Barstow, and Greasewood Springs Community School.

Billy is survived by his wife, Betty Abe; sons, Anthony Abe, Alfredo Abe, Lemar “Muzzie” Abe and David Abe; daughters, Laverne Abe, Lacita Abe, Anna Spencer and Mary Lou Yamaga; brother, Henry Abe; sister, Anna Beal; and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Marie Bah and John Abe; brother, John Bahe Abe; and sisters, Marie Manuelito and Eva Abe.

Pallbearers were Alfredo Abe, Lemar Abe, Shayne Yellowhair, Sean Yellowhair, Christopher Yellowhair and Garrison Begay.

Honorary pallbearers were Larry Sangster, Arnold Begay and Sammy Lee Sr.

GALLUP – Funeral services for Karen Ann Bahe, 29, will be held Friday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at the Gallup City Cemetery.

Karen was born July 24, 1985, in Gallup, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan). Her nali is Kin Yaa’áanii (Towering House). She died July 1, 2016, in Gallup.

Karen graduated from Gallup High School and attended New Mexico State University majoring in early childhood. She enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson bike, arts and crafts, exercising, drawing, and was a very hard worker and mother.

Karen is survived by her mother, Kristyne Bahe; brothers, Mac Davis Bahe, Adrian Bahe and David Carl Bahe Jr.; and sisters, Kristy Bahe, Tasha Bahe and Kayla Walker.

Karen is preceded in death by her father, David Carl Bahe Sr.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Bahe, David Bahe Jr., Lamar Rios, Myrin Spencer, Christopher Begay, Armin Martine, Casper Wilson and Ryan Spencer.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ella L. Joe

RAMAH, N.M. – Graveside service for Ella L. Joe will be held Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m. on Flat Top Mountain near Ramah, N.M.

Ella was born Feb. 10, 1939, into the Áshiihi (Salt People Clan). She died June 23, 2016, in Phoenix, after a long battle with diabetes.

Ella was a homemaker all her life but she managed to put both her nieces through college.

Ella is survived by her sons, Robert Marsh and DJ Pino; daughters, Vivian Joe and Vera Joe Johnson; brother, Jerry Pino Sr.; and seven grandchildren.

A potluck reception will take place at Ramah Chapter House following service.

Edith Sally Dokie

BARSTOW, Calif. – Funeral services for Edith Sally Dokie, 88, of White Cone, Ariz., will be held Friday, July 8, at Mead’s Mortuary in Barstow, Calif., with Pastor Grey officiating. Burial will follow in Barstow.

Edith was born Oct. 24, 1927, in White Cone, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan). She died July 3, 2016, in Barstow.

Edith achieved a 10th grade education and was employed in the hotel industry for 30 distinguished years. She was a talented cook and patient teacher. She stayed active in her church and kept her faith. TV time meant crocheting time. She received the most joy from being an avid cheerleader for her sons and grandchildren’s various sport endeavors.

Edith is survived by her sons, Larry (aka Sonny) Dokie Jr., Freddie Dokie, Edwin Dokie, Jerry Dokie and Michael Dokie; daughters, Jane Bandeka-Boyle and Donna Dokie; sisters, Dolores Green, Louise Begay, Lorraine Lewis, Laura Burnside and Patsy Begay; and 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dokie Sr.; and brothers, Richard Lewis, Gene Lewis, Peter Lewis, Jonah Lewis and Manuel Lewis.

Pallbearers will be Michael Dokie, Brandon Dokie, Jason Dokie, Lorne Dokie, Johnny Reyes and Lucas Dokie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Dokie, Larry Dokie Jr., Jerry Dokie and Edwin Dokie.

A reception will take place at 1740 Paloma St. in Barstow, following services.

Craig LeMont Lee

JEDDITO, Ariz. – Graveside service for Craig LeMont Lee, 26, of Jeddito, Ariz., will be held Friday, July 8, at 9 a.m. (MST) at the Jeddito cemetery with Daniel Koeln and Francis Begay officiating.

Craig was born Oct. 17, 1989, in Shiprock, into the Kin Yaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tó’aheedliinii (Water Flow Together Clan). He died July 1, 2016, in Flagstaff.

Craig completed his GED and was self-employed as a landscaper. He enjoyed drawing, exploring and teaching his nephews and nieces, hiking, and helping his elders and community.

Craig is survived by his mother, Rose Lee; brothers, Dominic Anzara and Vince Lee; sister, Jeanetta Lee; and maternal grandfather, Bahe Ben.

Craig is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Lee; cousins, Alonzo and Henry Haven; maternal grandmother, Helen Nelwood Begay; and paternal grandmother, Rose C. Lee.

Pallbearers will be Dominic Anzara, Vince Lee, Orlando Haven, Nahshon Menefee, Gerald Ben and Justin Ben.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Ben, Johnson Ben, Ty Tsosie and Tim Begay.

A reception will take place at Jeffery Sage and Mary Ann Ben’s residence following service.

CHINLE – Funeral services for James Chee Begaye, 62, of Chinle, will be held Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Chinle, with Father P.J. Florecito Pabatao officiating. Burial will follow in Chinle.

James was born March 10, 1954, in Chinle, into the Tó Dich’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan). He died July 1, 2016, in Chinle.

James enjoyed spending time with his children and family.

James is survived by his sons, James Begaye Jr., Allison Begaye, Elrick Begaye, Skyler Begaye, Byron Begaye and Jaynes Begaye; daughters, Candice and Malena Begaye and Brenda Touchin; mother, Marian Bahe; brother, Dalton Draper; sister, Francine Tapija; and 16 grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his brother, Luke Draper; and grandmother, Anna Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Byron Begaye, Joshua Teller, Cody Claw and Jamal Bobelu.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Begaye Jr., Allison Begaye and Elrick Begaye.

A reception will take place at the late Alta Claw’s residence in Del Muerto, Ariz., following services.

Hazel B. Mike

FISH POINT, Ariz. – Funeral services for Hazel B. Mike, 85, of Fish Point, Ariz., were held July 6 at the Black Mountain Mennonite Church in Black Mountain, Ariz., with Daniel Smiley officiating. Interment followed in Fish Point.

Hazel was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Black Mountain, into the Tó’aheedliinii (Water Flow Together Clan), born for Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan). She died June 30, 2016, in Mesa, Ariz.

Hazel loved to read her Bible, weave rugs, sew, cook and care for her family.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Edward Mike; son, David Mike; daughters, Ladina Sam, Lolee Bronston, Florence Anspach, Verna Begaye, Lena Summers, Anna Mike and Martha Charley; brothers, Carl Burbank, Naswood Burbank and Peter Burbank; sister, Lucille Yazzie; and 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Hazel is preceded in death by Tamara Faith Charley.

Pallbearers were Seth Sam, Byron Sam, Brian Bronston, Daniel Summers, Jeremiah Summers and Michael Anspach.

Honorary pallbearers were John Goodner, Timothy Yazzie, Vincent Yazzie, Freemond Burbank and Iran Duarte.

A reception will take place at the family residence in Fish Point, following services.
