Bobby Monroe
WINSLOW, Ariz. – Graveside service for Bobby Monroe, 86, were held April 21 at the Desert View Cemetery in Winslow, Ariz.
Bobby was born July 7, 1928, in Tolani Lake, Ariz., into the Kinyaa’a«anii (Towering House Clan), born for Hashk’aa hadzoh’ (Yucca Fruit-Strung-out-in-a-Line Clan). His nali is çshiihi (Salt People); chei is Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water). He died April 18, 2015, in Avondale, Ariz.
Bobby was a very well known traditional healer. He enjoyed songs, dances, and always greeted everyone with a smile. He has lived a very good life, he had the things he always wanted and enjoyed his livestock. He was a very generous man. He shared many stories and teachings and will be greatly missed.
Bobby is survived by his children, Katherine Mitchell of Tolani Lake, Louva Monroe of Tolani Lake, and Phil Monroe of Tolani Lake; and eight grandchildren.
Bobby is preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Monroe of Leupp, Ariz., Rex Monroe of Tolani Lake, Roy Monroe of Tolani Lake, Bahie Monroe of Tolani Lake, and Dean Monroe of Tolani Lake; mother, Katherine Monroe; and father, Na’nish’ Worker.

Phillip N. Nez
TO’HAJIILEE, N.M. — Funeral services for Phillip N. Nez, 58, of To’hajiilee, N.M., will be held Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at The Jesus Church in To’hajiilee, with Pastor Lester Secatero officiating. Burial will follow in To’hajiilee.
Phillip was born into the Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tódik’ózhi (Salt Water Clan). He died April 19, 2015, in Albuquerque.
Phillip graduated from Window Rock High School and was employed with CEI Enterprises as a welder from 1991-2015. He enjoyed welding, making woodstoves, and traveling with family.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Verna Platero; son, Jarrett Nez; daughters, Janelle N. Nez and Felicia Nez; brother, Joseph Leonard Nez; and sisters, Roszella Woods and Rebecca Nez.
A reception will take place at the Desidero Center following services.

Hansen Tapaha
PINON, Ariz. — Funeral services for Hansen Tapaha, 29, of Pinon, Ariz., will be held Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. in Pinon, with Pastor Jackson William officiating. Burial will follow in Pinon.
Hansen was born April 15, 1986, in Chinle. He died April 17, 2015, in Albuquerque.
Hansen attended Rough Rock High School and was employed at DKD Electric as an electrician apprentice. He enjoyed playing basketball and football, playing with his son, spending time with family, and making others laugh.
Hansen is survived by his wife, Loutasha Buckinghorse; son, Jordan Tapaha; parents, Gena Shorty and Bennie Tapaha; sisters, Cassandra Williams, Kristina Williams, and Camille Williams; and grandmother, Marie Billie.
Hansen is preceded in death by his grandfather, Gene Shorty Sr.
Pallbearers will be Allison White, Lawren Buckinghorse, Kirk Yazzie, Gene Shorty Jr., Kenneth Williams, and Orlando Bekay.
Honorary pallbearer will be Stanley Billie.
A reception will take place at the family residence (4.5 miles north west of Pinon Chapter House).

Carl Mute Jr.
ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. — Funeral services for Carl Mute Jr., 65, of St. Michaels, Ariz., will be held today, April 23, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Nazarene in St. Michaels. Burial will follow at the St. Michaels community cemetery.
Carl was born March 10, 1950, in Fort Defiance, into the Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan), born for T‡baah‡ (Water’s Edge Clan). He died April 18, 2015, in Flagstaff.
Carl is survived by his brother, Charley Mute Sr.; and sisters, Helen Begay and Amelia Williams.
Carl is preceded in death by his father, Carl Mute Sr.; mother, Nasbah Mute; and sisters, Isabele Begay and Ester White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Begay, Jonah Begay, Albert White, and Shamond Goodman.
A reception will take place at St. Michaels Chapter House following services.

Ned Anderson Sr.
BYLAS, Ariz. – Funeral services for Chairman Ned Anderson Sr., the 13th chairman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe in southeastern Arizona, and former president of the Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona, will be held Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m. at the Ernest Stanley Activity Center in Bylas, Ariz. He passed away April 16, 2015.
Anderson, the son and grandson of prestigious Western Apache leaders including John Rope, devoted his life’s work to protecting and enhancing tribal self-governance and tribal sovereignty, and was an influential voice for native rights, including the right to vote. He was an ardent defender for self-governance and was an instrumental tribal leader in Arizona and a strong supporter of the Democratic Party.
Anderson received his juris doctorate degree from the University of Arizona in 1973. He will be eulogized as a champion for self-governance, defender of water rights, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy of leadership and love for the Apache people will ensure his memory lives on.
“Chairman Anderson’s work in negotiating the delivery of Central Arizona Project water continues to impact and benefit American Indian communities today. He worked tirelessly to enhance our water resources and was a brilliant leader. The San Carlos Apache Tribe is deeply saddened by the passing of our great leader,” said Terry Rambler, current chairman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe.
Anderson is survived by his wife Delphina, five children, 18 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Annie T. Begay
DILKON, Ariz. — Graveside service for Annie T. Begay, 69, were held April 20 at the Dilkon community cemetery with Pastor Henry Chase officiating.
Annie was born July 20, 1945, to Kee and Tonline Tsosie in Castle Butte, Ariz. She died April 16, 2015, in Tuba City.
Annie is survived by her sons, Leroy Begay, Julius Van Cruz, Ronald Frank, Brian Frank, and Michael Frank; daughters, Lorraine Cepi, Betty Frank, Mary R. Begay, Loretta Begay, Stella Begay, Rose Ann Lane, Curlinda Frank, Orlinda Frank, Belinda Frank, and Racquel George; sisters, Mary T. Begay, Ella Mae Barton, Juanita Long, and Irene Manygoats; brother, Raymond Tsosie; and 40 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Annie is preceded in death by her brother, Henry Tsosie; parents, Kee and Tonline Tsosie; and grandmother, Cleo Begay.

Rose Ann Tahe
MANY FARMS, Ariz. — Funeral services for Rose Ann Tahe, 63, of Many Farms, Ariz., were held April 18 at the Many Farms Baptist Church with Edison Gruber officiating. Interment and a reception followed in Many Farms.
Rose was born Dec. 8, 1951, in Many Farms, into the Naaneesht’ézhi T‡chii’nii (The Charcoal Streaked Division of the Red Running Into the Water Clan), born for çshiihi (Salt People Clan). She died April 14, 2015, in Phoenix.
Rose received a doctoral degree in elementary education leadership and a master’s degree in elementary education from Northern Arizona University. She retired from Chinle Unified School District and became a freelance writer. She enjoyed reading, ranching, and teaching.
Rose is survived by her son, Monty Klah; daughters, Tatum Klah, Danielle Parker, and Tamara Tahe; brothers, Willie Tom Begay, John Tom Begay, and Benjamin Begay; and sisters, Bernice Begay, Natalie Small, and Elsie Howard-Begay.
Rose is preceded in death by Lesina Begay, Hosteen Owl Begay, Melvin Begay, Betty Begay, Kee Begay, Johnny John Begay, Wyonna Billy, and Seth Begay.
Pallbearers were Monty Klah, Cornelius Billy, Herschel Billy, Christopher Nez, Lyle Hubbard, and Ronnadette Tanner.
Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin Begay, John Tom Begay, and Willie Tom Begay.

Patty Mike
KAYENTA – Gravesite service for Patty Mike, 96, of Kayenta, were held April 21 at the Kayenta community cemetery.
Patty was born around May 1918 at Blackwater farm on the Chinle Wash, near the old Mexican Water Trading Post. She was of the Tódich’ii’nii (Bitterwater Clan), born for the Tl’izilani (Many Goats Clan). She died April 16, 2015, in Mesa, Ariz.
Patty attended school in Shiprock, Toadalena Boarding School, and transferred to Phoenix Indian School where she met her husband, King P. Mike Sr., and graduated in 1939.
Patty’s first job was at the Intermountain Boarding School as a dormitory attendant, which became her career when she moved back to the Kayenta Boarding School as a dormitory attendant, retiring from the Bureau of Indian Affairs after 40 years of service.
Patty is survived by her sister, Emma Valentine of Mexican Hat, Utah; daughters, Sharry Yazzie of Mesa, and Victoria Blair of Lukachukai, Ariz.; sons, Richard Mike of Kayenta, and King Mike Jr. of Shiprock; and 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Ted Blackwater; husband, King Mike Sr.; son, Francis (Spanky) Mike; and grandchildren, Daniel Mike, Terry Mike, and Tanya White.
Delbert Lee Grey
GALLUP — Funeral services for Delbert Lee Grey, 48, were held April 17 at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Interment followed at the family plot at 1st Canyon in Pinedale, N.M.
Delbert was born March 10, 1967, into the T‡baah‡ (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Naasht’ézhi dine’é (Zuni Clan). His nali is T‡baah‡; chei is Naasht’ézhi dine’é. He died April 9, 2015.
Delbert graduated from Gallup High School and was a bull rider and silversmith. He enjoyed camping and being with family.
Delbert is survived by his mother, Rose Mary Gray of Pinedale; brothers, Marvin Gray of Gallup, Harold Gray of Pinedale, and Howard Gray of Gallup; sisters, Lavern Tyson of Gallup, Arlene Keyanna of Pinedale, and Helena Arrates of Pinedale; sons, Kamron Dashee of Pinedale, Magnus Gray of Texas, Antonio Gray, and Craige Gray; and daughters, Talisa Gray and Cheyenne Gray.
Delbert is preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Gray; and sister, Orlinda Gray.
Pallbearers were Richard Wauneka, Logan Wauneka, Kee Keyanna, Tristin Peterson, Derran Peterson, and Marvin Gray.

MONUMENT VALLEY, Utah — Graveside servicesÊfor Darwin James, 37, of Cortez, Colo., were heldÊApril 17 at the family cemetery in Monument Valley, Utah.
Darwin was born April 5, 1978, in Monument Valley. He passed away April 12, 2015, in Shiprock.
Darwin was in the care of Desert View Funeral Home.
