David Fanman Jr.
CANTON, Okla. — Funeral services for David Fanman Jr., 68, of Fort Defiance, were held Aug. 26 at the Canton Native American Gym in Canton, Oklahoma, with Gerold Panana officiating.
David, an enrolled member of the Southern Cheyenne Tribe, was born March 31, 1949, in Clinton, Oklahoma.
David received his associate’s degree from the University of New Mexico and Diné College. He served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a staff sergeant.
David worked for the Window Rock Unified School District No. 8 as a substitute, special education teacher and a homebound teacher working with at-risk students. He was a hereditary Cheyenne chief.
David traveled across the U.S. to various powwows with his family selling jewelry. He loved to gourd dance and enjoyed listening to Thunderhill, Radmilla Cody and Tina Turner.
David is survived by his wife, Lorraine B. Fanman; sons, David Fanman III and Carlos L. Gloria; daughter, Sarah M. Fanman; and sisters, Linda Jensen, Janice Fanman, Rosie Fanman and Bealuh Fanman.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Allrunner Fanman and David “Gunsmoke” Fanman Sr.; and brothers, James Fanman, Kingsley Fanman and Malcom Fanman.
Pallbearers were Sheldon Ben, Tom Evans Jr., Denny Fanman, Jacob Fanman, James Fanman, Richard Fanman, Alexander J.C. Nastacio and Adeus Oldcrow.
Honorary pallbearers were Cheyenne chiefs, Arapaho chiefs, Dog Soldier Society, Fred Allrunner, Raymond Bigman, Daniel Cloud, Amos Hawk, David Hawk, Clifford Little Elk, Richard Kaaloa, Kingston Pipestem, Gilbert Sanchez, Charles Surveyor, Russell Tallbull and Jacobi Tenorio.
Pierce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Richard Henry Draper
CHINLE — Funeral services for Richard Henry Draper (aka Rick Draper), 51, of Del Muerto, Ariz., will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at the Potters House in Chinle, with Pastor Arly Aragon officiating. Burial will follow at the Draper Ranch family plot in Chinle.
Richard was born Nov. 16, 1965, in Flagstaff, into the Bear Clan of Chippewa Tribe, born for çshiih’ (Salt People Clan). He died Aug. 25, 2017, in Del Muerto.
Richard graduated from Chinle High School and attended the Motorcycle Mechanic Institute in Phoenix, and was employed as a Honda certified mechanic as well as a self-employed motorcycle mechanic.
Richard enjoyed motocross racing, teaching youth about motorcycles and motorcycle mechanics.
Richard is survived by his wife, Cynthia Draper; sons, Richard Jeremy Draper and Seth Ryan Draper; daughters, Heather Nicole Draper and Mandi Garnet Carol Draper; father, Richard Phillip Draper; brother, David Scott Draper; sister, Kimberly Draper; and grandchild, Liam Ryder Terrell.
Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Ruth Draper; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Carole Voss; and paternal grandparents, Henry and Garnet Draper.
Pallbearers will be Ian Draper, Bill Damon, Leroy Draper, Felin Halwood, William “Dusty” Draper, Wallace Halwood Jr. and Warren Tallbrother.
A reception will take place at the Del Muerto Church following services.

Everettson Andy Scott
FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Everettson Andy Scott, 18, of Fort Defiance, will be held Saturday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at the Potter’s House in Fort Defiance, with Pastor Haven officiating. Burial will follow in Pigeon Springs, New Mexico.
Everettson was born Sept. 11, 1998, in Fort Defiance, into the Hashk’aa hadzoh’ (Yucca Fruit-Strung-Out-In-A-Line Clan), born for çshiih’ (Salt People Clan). He died Aug. 27, 2017, in Fort Defiance.
Everettson graduated from Window Rock High School in 2017. He enjoyed being with family and was a sports fan of football and basketball, especially the New England Patriots and Golden State Warriors.
Everettson is survived by his parents, Vera Jones Scott and Anthony Scott Sr.; brothers, Vernon Yazzie, Aaron Scott, Aaronson Scott, Eric Scott and Ericson Scott; sisters, Verncina Scott and Verlincina Scott; maternal grandparents, Irene Sampson and Louis Jones Yazzie; and paternal grandparents, Reah and Joe Scott.
Everettson is preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Scott Jr.; and uncle, Benny Scott.
Pallbearers will be Ericson Scott, Eric Scott, Aaron Scott, Aaronson Scott, Nate Yazzie and Vernon Yazzie.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Gail and Delbert Damon Jr.
A reception will take place at the Fort Defiance Chapter House following services.
