Lorraine D. Yazzie

INDIAN WELLS, Ariz. — Funeral services for Lorraine D. Yazzie, 66, of Indian Wells, Ariz., were held Aug. 4 at the Broken Arrow Chapel in Indian Wells. Interment and a reception followed in Indian Wells.

Lorraine was born Dec. 31, 1948, in Indian Wells, into the Dzilt’aadi (Near the Mountain Clan) and Kiyaa’aanii (Towering House Clan). She died July 30, 2015, in Winslow, Ariz.

Lorraine received an associate’s degree from Phoenix Community College and was employed with Navajo County as a nutrition worker. She enjoyed writing, crafts, teaching the Navajo language, quilting, reading, traveling, and cross-stitch.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Darryl Yazzie; daughters, LaVerne Yazzie, Angie Yazzie and Priscilla Yazzie; parents, Olive and Harry Kee Joe; sisters, Irene Deschine and Florence Bain; grandmother, Kesbah Yazzie; and 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, David H. Yazzie; son, Percy Yazzie; and brothers, Richard and Peter Mitchell.

Greer’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Marie Chee

SMOKE SIGNAL, Ariz. — Funeral services for Marie Chee, 64, of Low Mountain, Ariz., will be held today, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Nazarene Church in Smoke Signal, Ariz., with Pastor Ron Little officiating. Burial will follow at the family plot in Low Mountain.

Marie was born March 6, 1951, in Keams Canyon, Ariz., into the T—tsohnii (Big Water Clan), born for Kiyaa’aanii (Towering House Clan). She died Aug. 1, 2015, in Phoenix.

Marie, a homemaker, attended Navajo Community College and enjoyed beadwork and cooking.

Marie is survived by her brother, David M. Chee; and sisters, Mary Chee James, Bessie Bydone and Maggie Keams.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Nelson Chee; and brothers, John N. Chee, Thomas Lee Chee and Clifford Yazzie.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Nelson, Sterling Chee, Franklin Chee, Jeremiah James, Roger Bydone, and Jim Ray Bydone.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Morgan Chee, Kelvin James, Calvin Chee, Jonathan Chee, Shawn Alexander, and Florenzo B. Dodge.

A reception will take place at Jimmy and Bessie Bydone’s residence following services.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Worden D. Stanley

GALLUP — Funeral services for Worden D. Stanley, 23, will be held today, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at the family plot in Monument Valley, Utah.

Worden was born Feb. 20, 1992, in Salt Lake City, Utah, into the Dziltl’ahnii (Mountain Cove Clan), born for T—dich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan). His nali is Haltsooi (Meadow People); chei is Bit’ahnii (Folded Arms/Under His Cover). He died Aug. 3, 2015, in Gallup.

Worden completed high school and attended trade school at UTI in Phoenix. He was employed as a mechanic at Tate’s Auto. He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, best friend, and role model. He always had a smile on his face and made the best of everything. He will truly be missed and loved.

Worden is survived by his mother, Sharon Lee; sisters, Sherylene James and Sharadene Stanley; brothers, Wesley Stanley, Wilkin Stanley and Wilson Stanley; daughter, Yawaiya Stanley; niece, Shaylene Ben; and nephew, Darius Jones.

Worden is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Leo Stanley.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

George J. Toledo

ALBUQUERQUE — Funeral services for George J. Toledo, 64, of Albuquerque, will be held today, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at The Daniels Funeral Home Chapel in Albuquerque, with Jimson Tully officiating. Burial will follow at the Torreon Mission Cemetery in Torreon, N.M.

George was born into the Bit’ahnii (Under His Cover Clan), born for Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle Clan). He died July 25, 2015, in Albuquerque.

George is a 1969 graduate from Menaul High School in Albuquerque, and 1971 graduate from Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla. He worked various jobs as a laborer and served in the U.S. Navy from June 1976 to March 1978. He was a self-taught artist and enjoyed painting powwow dancers and Southwest scenery.

George is survived by his brother, Abel Toledo Jr.; and sister, Jeannie Daniels.

George is preceded in death by his father, Abel Toledo Sr.; mother, Mary (Billie) Toledo; and sister, Amalia (Molly) Toledo.

Daniels Family Funeral Services-Alameda Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Dawes

GALLUP — Funeral services for Michael Dawes, 53, will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at the Lone Pine Cemetery in Mexican Springs, N.M.

Michael was born May 12, 1962, in Mexican Springs, into the Bit’ahnii (Under His Cover Clan), born for T‡chii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan). His nali is Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People); chei is Kinyaa’‡anii (Towering House). He died Aug. 3, 2015, in Albuquerque.

Michael was a horse lover and was well known as Mike “Jones”. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play, making kachina dolls, making handcraft necklaces, spending time with his grandchildren, joking with family, and going to the casino.

Michael is survived by Faye Peterson, Lavina Dawes, Derrick M. Dawes Sr., Darien M. Dawes, and four grandchildren.

Michael is also survived by his brothers, Johnson Dawes, Leslie E. Dawes Sr., Leonard Ahasteen, Harold W. Dawes, Austin A. Dawes, John “Jr.” Curley, Johnnie P. Curley, and Wesley Lawless Jr.; and sisters, Ella M. Dawes, Linda M. Bitsoi, Shirley M. Dawes, and Darlene F. Curley.

Michael is preceded in death by his father, Naswood E. Dawes; and brother, Jerry C. Curley.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Dawes, Darien Dawes, Cody Ashley, Harold Dawes, Raymond Peterson, and Arnold Peterson.

Maragret C. Lee

NASCHITTI, N.M. — Funeral services for Maragret C. Lee, 69, were held Aug. 5 at the Naschitti Christian Reform Church. Interment followed at the Naschitti cemetery.

Maragret was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Naschitti, into the Bit’ahnii (Folded Arms/Under His Cover Clan), born for çshiihi (Salt People Clan). She died Aug. 1, 2015, in Rio Rancho, N.M.

Maragret loved her grandchildren and her great-grandson.

Maragret is survived by her sons, Brian Captain and Jamie Lee; daughters, Kimberlain McDonald and Valerie Lee; brothers, Arthur Captain, Reginald Captain and Alvin Captain; and sisters, Nellie Arviso and Harriett Captain.

Maragret is preceded in death by her father, Norman Captain; mother, Mrytle Captain; and sister, Julia C. Hubbell.
