Derryl Anthony Owens
GALLUP — Funeral services for Derryl Anthony Owens, 71, were held Dec. 18 at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Interment followed at the Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup.
Derryl was born Dec. 26, 1946, in Los Angeles, California. He passed away Dec. 11, 2018, in Brimhall, New Mexico. Derryl worked at Gurley Motor Company for 39 years when he retired. He enjoyed his time spent with family and friends and playing basketball, participating in Gallup men’s leagues and played all over the surrounding reservations.
Derryl is survived by his wife, Lucy M. Owens of Brimhall; brother, Mark Churchill of Los Angeles; children, Bruce Morgan, Victor Hicks, Tremayne Hicks, Phoebe Hicks, Lucinda Hicks, and Earlene Hicks; and 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Derryl is preceded in death by his mother, Lily Churchill; and father, Eddie Owens.
Pallbearers were immediate family. Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Nancy Eskeets
GALLUP — Funeral services for Nancy Eskeets, 80, will be held today, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at the family plot in Mariano Lake, New Mexico.
Nancy was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Mariano Lake, into the Biih bitoodnii (Deer Spring Clan), born for Deeshchii’nii (Start of the Red Streak People Clan). Her nali is Ts’ah yisk’idnii (Sage Brush Hill); chei is Áshiihí (Salt People).
She passed away Dec. 16, 2018, in Grants, New Mexico. Nancy grew up in Mariano Lake, and spent most of her time at home tending to the livestock.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Timmy Dehiya, Darrell Eskeets and Harold Eskeets; sister, Rose Ann Shirley; and brother, Stanley Dehiya. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Angie and Frank Dehiya. Pallbearers will be family members. Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
