Ruby L. Cody

ROUND CEDAR, Ariz. – Funeral services for Ruby Lee Cody, 80, of Round Cedar, Arizona, were held Dec. 26 at the Round Cedar Church of the Nazarene. Interment followed at the Round Cedar Cemetery.

Ruby Lee Cody, Jan. 18, 1945 – Dec. 16, 2025

Ruby was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Round Cedar, into the Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tséńjíkiní (Honey Combed Rock/Cliff Dwellers People Clan). She passed away Dec. 16, 2025.

Ruby worked 43 years as a legal secretarial consultant with DNA-People Legal Services in Window Rock. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, a good barbecue, bingo, and spending time with friends and family.

Ruby is survived by her sisters, Bettie L. Silversmith and Esther Frejo.

Ruby is preceded in death by Jack Lee Cody, Ellen Cody, Lillian Cody, Herman Cody and Paul Jones Jr.

Pallbearers were Jack Cody, Gabriel Barbone, Colin Collins, Lionel Riggs, Todd Shorty, Derrick Riggs, Bryon Shorty and Joshua Long.

Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow oversaw arrangements.

 


 

Maggie Laughter

TUBA CITY – Funeral services for Maggie Laughter, 66, of Shonto, Arizona, were held Dec. 29 in Tuba City. Interment followed in Tall Mountain, Arizona.

Maggie Laughter, July 29, 1959 – Dec. 19, 2025

Maggie was born July 29, 1959, in Tuba City, into the Kinłichíi’nii (Red House People Clan), born for Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan). Her nálí is Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge); cheii is Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People). She passed away Dec. 19, 2025, in Shonto.

Maggie attended Monument Valley High School and was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. She enjoyed riding horses, hiking, playing board games and spending time with her grandchildren.

Maggie is survived by her husband, John Laughter; son, Jason Laughter (Talia); daughter, Brenda Laughter (Troy Cly); siblings, Eugene Jordan, Betty Slim, Patty Etsitty, Ann Tsinijinnie, Genevieve Dayzie, Jimmie Jordan and Alfred Jordan; and seven grandchildren.

Maggie is preceded in death by Lynn and Bessie Jordan, Albert Jordan, Maize Jordan and Alta Thornton.

Valley Ridge Mortuary oversaw arrangements.

 


 

Andrew Vandever

NAZLINI, Ariz. – Graveside service for Andrew Vandever, 70, of Nazlini, Arizona, was held Dec. 30 at the Nazlini community cemetery.

Andrew was born Oct. 28, 1955, in Rehoboth, New Mexico, into the Deeshchii’nii (Start of the Red Streak People Clan), born for Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan). His nálí is Tó Baazhní’ázhí (Two Who Came to the Water); cheii is Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water). He passed away Dec. 24, 2025, in Chinle.

Andrew attended Thoreau High School and was employed as a silversmith. He was a skilled silversmith who put pride and care into his work.

Andrew was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his love of the Denver Broncos, Phoenix Suns, quiet hours watching The Cowboy channel and the excitement of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Irene Vandever; son, Marvin Vandever; daughters, Jennifer Vandever, Amy Vandever and Kimberly Vandever; and three brothers, two sisters and eight grandchildren.

Andrew is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Marie Vandever; sons, Michael and Mark Vandever; and brother, Arthur Vandever.

Pallbearers were Anthony Betom, Elijah James, Cavan Keesie, Jeremiah Vandever, Delbert Yazzie and Waylon James.

Honorary pallbearer was Marvin Vandever.

Silver Creek Mortuary oversaw arrangements.
