Darlene A. Yazzie

GALLUP – Funeral services for Darlene A. Yazzie, 59, of Crownpoint, will be held Wednesday, July 9, at 10 a.m., at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup, with Pastor Aaron Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the family plot in Nihodeeshgiizh, New Mexico.

Darlene was born July 9, 1965, into the Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). She passed away July 1, 2025.
Darlene was a self-employed rug weaver.

Darlene is survived by her brothers, Darryl Yazzie and Danny Yazzie; sisters, Mavis Yazzie, Gloria Largo, Diane Yazzie, Deanna Yazzie, Dora Largo, and Bernice Begaye; and grandparents, Kee and Nellie Johnson and Jim and Molly Yazzie.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Evelyn Yazzie; and brothers, Daniel Yazzie, Dennis Yazzie and Dan Yazzie Jr.

Pallbearers will be Jerrickson Largo, Jaydan Largo, Ronaldon Willie, Shawn Yazzie, Steven Yazzie, and Wade Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Darryl Yazzie, Danny Yazzie and Robert Yazzie.A reception will take place at the Nihodeeshgiizh Chapter House following services.

Sharon L. Tso

GRAND FALLS, Ariz. – It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Sharon Lynn Tso, 58, of Leupp, Arizona, who departed this life on June 26, 2025, in Grand Falls, Arizona.

Sharon was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, partner, and friend whose strength, generosity, and heart touched all who knew her.

Sharon was born Oct. 5, 1966, into the Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle Clan), born for Naakaii Dine’é (Mexican Clan). Her paternal clan is Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House), and maternal clan is Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water).

Sharon was raised in both Leupp and Page, Arizona, where her life was deeply rooted in her Navajo heritage and the values of hard work, family, and community. She later made her home in Leupp, where she spent many years working with youth, offering guidance, support, and care to countless young people whose lives were shaped by her compassion and dedication.

A proud ranch woman, Sharon found joy and purpose tending to animals, helping her relatives, and staying closely connected to the land. Her strength and determination were matched by a kind spirit and unwavering loyalty to those she loved.

Sharon will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched with her generous soul and loving heart.

Sharon is survived by her children, Randy Nagitsy and Sheryl Steely, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride.

Sharon is also survived by her loving partner, Donald Babbitt, and a large and close-knit family of siblings, Alberta Gordo, Melvin Tso, Terry Tso, Calvin Tso, Jacquelyn Tso, Jerald Tso, Farrah Clitso, Gwen McCabe, and Shirlinda McCabe.

Sharon is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Kee and Alta Bert; paternal grandparents, Kent and Eunice Cody Tso; mother, Shirley McCabe (Charlie); father, Jerry Tso (Juanita); brother, Marvin Tso; and son, Brandon Quinn Begay.

Sharon was laid to rest on July 3 at the family plot in Grand Falls.


Matilda Lansing-Brodie

REHOBOTH, N.M. – Funeral services for Matilda Lansing-Brodie, 53, of Gallup, were held July 8 at the Rehoboth Christian Church in Rehoboth, New Mexico, with Pastor James Kuiper officiating. Interment followed at the Sunset Cemetery in Gallup.

Matilda Lansing-Brodie, Nov. 9, 1971 – June 28, 2025

Matilda was born Nov. 9, 1971, in Gallup, into the Haltsooí (Meadow People Clan), born for Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan). She passed away June 28, 2025, in Sandy, Utah.

Matilda graduated from Gallup High School and attended the University of New Mexico-Gallup and Salt Lake Community College. She worked for Myriad Genetics as a medical billing specialist and the University of Utah Medical as a billing specialist.

Matilda was a Native American entrepreneur, active/elite basketball player, homemaker, mother, and wife.

Matilda is survived by her husband, Donavan Brodie; sons, Dominique Brodie and Dallen Brodie; daughter, Sierra Dawn Brodie; parents, Carolyne and James Lansing; and brothers, Jason Lansing and Jon Lansing.

Matilda is preceded in death by her brother, Jay Lansing; maternal grandparents, Marion and Esther Yazzie; and paternal grandparents, David and Mable Lansing.

Pallbearers were Garrett Tolino, Jonathan Yazzie, Marqueis Yazzie, Earl Yazzie Jr., Andre Harris, and Walter Livingston.

Honorary pallbearers were Dominique Brodie, Dallen Brodie, Jason Lansing, and Jon Lansing.

Rollie Mortuary oversaw arrangements.


Carolyn Chee

REHOBOTH, N.M. – Graveside service for Carolyn Chee, 80, of Fort Defiance, will be held today, July 10, at 10 a.m., at the Rehoboth cemetery in Rehoboth, New Mexico.

Carolyn was born Nov. 5, 1944, in Fort Defiance, into the Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan). She passed away July 2, 2025, at the Gallup Indian Medical Center.

Carolyn graduated from Window Rock High School and was employed as a dorm aide at Magdalena BIA Schools. She enjoyed reading doing crossword puzzles.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Anthony Chee; daughters, Patricia Chee, Veronica Chee, Vicki Keetso, and Olga Chee; and brothers, Ronald Cohoe, Bryan Cohoe and Vernon Cohoe.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Chee; parents, Louise and Bryan Menthorne; brothers, Brigham Menthorne, Robert Cohoe and Phillip Menthorne; and sisters, Elouise Moore and Julia Menthorne Garnet.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Rollie Mortuary oversaw arrangements.


Brian Slim

HOUCK, Ariz. – Graveside service for Brian Slim, 56, of Lupton, Arizona, will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 10 a.m. (DST), at the Houck cemetery in Houck, Ariz., with President Footracer officiating.

Brian was born Sept. 23, 1968, in Gallup, into the Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge Clan). His nálí is Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People); cheii is Dibéłzhíní (Black Sheep). He passed away July 5, 2025, in Lupton.

Brian attended Sanders Unified School District and wore many hats of many talents. He was a volunteer EMT, firefighter, and security guard.

Brian was a very helpful person with a good sense of humor. He was always joking around and making people laugh. He traveled a lot and made new friends. He enjoyed cooking and watching movies.

Brian is survived by his sons, Patrick Slim, Nathan Slim and Bryan Slim; daughters, Vanessa Slim and Darian Slim; aunts, Nettie Slim and Helen Slim; brothers, Benny Slim Jr., Kevin Slim, Dale Slim, and Shawn Slim; and four grandchildren.

Brian is preceded in death by his father, Benny Slim; brother, Bobby Slim; and paternal grandparents, John and Geebah Slim.

A reception will take place at the LDS Church in Lupton, following service.
