Carmen Kaye Sanchez
WIDE RUINS, Ariz. — Graveside service for Carmen Kaye Sanchez, 66, of Albuquerque, will be held Saturday, July 14, at 10 a.m. in Wide Ruins, Arizona, with Julie Konheiser officiating.
Carmen was born Nov. 3, 1951, in Wide Ruins, into the Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan). She died June 28, 2018, in Albuquerque.
Carmen attended Holbrook High School, working and retiring at the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a procurement clerk.
Carmen is survived by her sons, Roderick Kaye, Sammy Kaye, Al Smith Jr., and Ted Smith; daughters, Phyllicita Kaye and LaDonna Yazzie; brothers, Robert Kaye, Duane Kaye, Alfred Kaye Jr., Bruce Kaye, Skeets Kaye, and Harvey Kaye; and 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, Helen J. and Alfred Kaye Sr.; and Gregory Kaye, Bobby Kaye, and Irvin Sanchez.
A reception will take place at the Wide Ruins Chapter House at 10 a.m.
Nelson Begay
REHOBOTH, N.M. — Funeral services for Nelson Begay, 82, were held July 10 at the Rehoboth Church in Rehoboth, New Mexico. Interment followed at the Rehoboth cemetery.
Nelson was born April 5, 1936, in Cross Canyon, Arizona, into the Ma’ii Deeshgiizhinii (Coyote Pass Clan). His nali is Tó’áhaní (Near the Water Clan). He died July 1, 2018.
Nelson is survived by his sons, Nathaniel and Nelbert; daughters, Natalie and Naomie Begay; and brother, Howard Begay.
Nelson is preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Damon; parents, Martha and Hosteen Cho Begay; daughter, Norma Jean Begay; and Leonard Begay, Roy Begay, Freddy Begay, and Rose Johnson.
Joe Lee Bergen Jr.
TUBA CITY — A memorial service for Joe Lee Bergen Jr., 71, will be held Saturday, July 14, at 11 a.m.
Joe was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Tuba City, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan). He died June 15, 2018, in Page, Arizona.
Joe attended Tuba City Boarding School and graduated from Tuba City High School. He received his business of science accounting degree from the Metropolitan Business College in New York, and MBA from Syracuse University.
Joe worked for the Office of Navajo Economic Opportunity, Navajo Tribal Utility Authority, JLP, Inc., City of Banning, Sonorad, LLC, Pyramid Lake Pauite Tribe, manager for Moenkopi Utility, and Sacred Mountains LLC.
Joe loved playing the flute, fishing, hunting, meeting new people through business development interests, and was an inspiration when it came to friendship and spending time with family.
Joe is survived by his wife, Marilyn Bergen; daughters, Rolanda Natachu, Amber Neff, and Yvette Bergen; brothers, Phillip Russell, Leander Bergen, and Wendell Bergen; sisters, Joann Esquibel, Verna Charleston, Lorraine Goldtooth, Martha Natonabah, Jolene Bergen, and Pauline Secakuku; and three grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Vera Todachenee and Joe Bergen Sr.; sisters, Josephine Bergen, Verda Toledo, and Juanita Sombrero; brothers, Jerry Bergen, Allan Bergen, Carl Bergen, Oliver Bergen, and Van Bergen; and grandparents, Sam and Emma Chief.
A reception will take place at the Tuba City Chapter House following memorial service.
Theresa Alice Morgan
CROWNPOINT — Funeral service for Theresa Alice Morgan, 50, were held July 11 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Crownpoint.
Theresa was born Jan. 11, 1968, in San Francisco, into the Tl’ááshchí’í (Red Bottom People Clan), born for Naakai dine’é (Mexican Clan). She died July 6, 2018, in Standing Rock, New Mexico.
Theresa graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1985 and received an associate’s degree in accounting from the University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch in 2001. She worked with Navajo Nation Workforce Development for three years and the Criminal Investigations Department for 16 years in Crownpoint.
Theresa is survived by her husband, Beau Morgan; children, Delbert Dennison, Matthew Dennison, Michael Morgan, and Kayla Morgan; and five grandchildren.
Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Patrick T. Begay
GALLUP — Funeral services for Patrick T. Begay, 36, were held July 6 at the LDS Church in Gallup. Interment followed at the Gallup City Cemetery.
Patrick was born May 18, 1982, in Gallup, into the Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). His nali is Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People); chei is Tsénjíkiní (Honey Combed Rock People). He died July 1, 2018, in Iyanbito, New Mexico.
Patrick graduated from Wingate High School and attended several colleges in Albuquerque. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed at Yokosuka, Japan.
Patrick loved to skateboard, listen to music, spend time with family and friends, tell jokes, and teach and show his nieces and nephews tricks.
Patrick is survived by his mother, Lucinda Neswood of Iyanbito; brothers, Garrett J. Billsie of Iyanbito, and Anderson T. Begay Jr.; and sisters, Leanderia Tsosie of Iyanbito, and Juanita Talasmaynewa of Prescott, Arizona.
Patrick is preceded in death by his father, Anderson T. Begay Sr.; brother, Matthew Begay; maternal grandparents, Louise and Fred Neswood Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Coolidge and Alice Begay.
Pallbearers were Eugene Marshall, Kevin Billsie, Jerald Marianito, Eric Jameson, Brian Chischilly, and Arthur L. Joe.
Honorary pallbearers were Garrett Billsie, Anderson T. Begay Jr., Cedrick Yazzie, Leo Neswood, and Vernon Nelson.
